Web 2.0 - A very good introduction

Video:

Web 2.0 is a 'catch phrase' for modern web-based sites/applications that has gained popularity in the last couple of years. This video, by Michael Wesch - Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology gives a good introduction to some of the philosophies of web 2.0 and eludes to some sociological implications/trends that will come as a result of web technology.

The video ends with the statement: "We must rethink a few things ... copyright ... authorship ... censorship ... identity ... ethics ... aesthetics... rhetorics ... governance ... privacy ... commerce ... love ... family ... ourselves."

Its not hard to think back 10 years to before the internet, and compare it with today. The way we interact with each other has greatly been changed by the internet. What would life be like if three were no email, no google, no facebook or bebo?

This quote about generation i (anyone born after the invention of the internet) is quite telling "[generation I] is one of a variety of terms used to represent the generation of people who have grown up with computer technology as a commonplace. The distinguishing mark of this cohort is that its members spent their formative years during the rise of the World Wide Web. Thus, they usually have no memory of (or nostalgia for) a pre-Internet history."
